The marquee credential

Diplomate of the ICOI.

The International Congress of Oral Implantologists was founded in 1972 and has more than 25,000 active members across 65 affiliate societies worldwide. It recognizes dentists at three levels — Fellow, Master and Diplomate — and Diplomate is the top of them.

Dr. Patellis was awarded Diplomate status in April 2010. His practice describes it as “an honor attained by only a small percentage of dentists worldwide”, which is a fair description of where it sits in a 25,000-member organization.

The letters after his name — D.M.D., FMIII, DICOI — are the dental degree, the Misch Institute fellowship and the ICOI diplomate respectively.

In print

“A Perfect Fit”, Suburban Life, July 2016.

Suburban Life Magazine profiled Dr. Patellis in its July 2016 issue in a piece by Bill Donahue. It covers how childhood neighbors drew him toward dentistry, his D.M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, his advanced training in implantology and restorative dentistry, and the technology the practice runs on — CEREC same-day crowns and i-CAT 3D scanning among it.

“We’re like a little oasis in a sea of dentists,” he told the magazine. “We focus on doing what needs to be done for the patient.”

What is deliberately not here

No badges, and no rating.

There are no “top dentist” logos on this page. A search of news archives and publication databases found one genuine piece of press — the 2016 Suburban Life feature, which is linked above and below — and no independent awards beyond the professional credentials listed here. Padding the page with paid directory badges would make it look more impressive and mean less.

The same rule applies to ratings. The directory profiles that carry a star rating for Dr. Patellis hold only one or two reviews each, which is not a number worth printing in large type. The profiles are linked instead, and you can weigh them yourself.
